The Cotswolds day 1 – from Tewkesbury to Stow-on-the-wold

Hi there! After telling you about my itinerary in the Cotswolds, now is the time to give you more details! Here are the different towns and villages I visited during my first day.

1st stop: Tewkesbury

As explained in the previous article, I started the weekend in Tewkesbury. This town is actually outside the Cotswolds area but only a few minutes drive from it. It was one of my favourite stops as I didn’t know what to expect! Indeed it wasn’t planned to go there at first and yet I loved it! I spent at least an hour strolling down the main street and enjoying the beautiful Cornell Books shop. This place sells second hand books and old road maps. I also walked along the canal and its disused factory. Tewkesbury’s abbey is also a place to visit, as its architecture is magnificent.

2nd stop: Bibury

After about 45 minutes of driving, I arrived in Bibury! A village where all houses are built with the local stone! Small bridge, small stream and small stone houses! A very nice decor as you can imagine, which is very typical of England! I had lunch at The William Morris Tea Room that I recommend you to try as well. Meals were simple but homemade and that’s what made them so delicious!

3rd stop: Northleach

This stop wasn’t planned either. I just found the town center really cute when I was on my way to Stow-on-the-Wold. So I decided to stop and have a walk around. The church and the narrow streets make the town really authentic.

4th stop: Stow-on-the-Wold

The village of Stow-on-the-Wold is also super cute! The only thing that disappointed me is the car park right in the town’s center. I feel that the town is loosing some of its charm because of it! Fortunately the many antique shops cheer me up, and I advise you to visit one of them as they are full of treasures (like this Laurel and Hardy figurines) ! After this long day I needed a sweet break at the Huffkins tea room (if you can make a reservation in advance, it’d be for the best as it’s quite busy). Moreover I got during my visit, as I managed to see a car like the one in Mister Bean 🙂

Have you ever visited one f these towns? If so, what do you think? Do you have any experiences to share? Please feel free to leave a comment!

Boujou (the Norman way to say XOXO)
