Things to do in Bagnoles de l’Orne, in Normandy
Hi there! The department of Orne, in Normandy, has an incredible nature! So I wanted to enjoy Autumn and went to Bagnoles de l’Orne! It’s located in the Andaines forest and is an ideal place to get away from stress and spend a lovely moment far from any pollution.
Bagnoles de l’Orne: tourism in the town center
Where to start to visit Bagnoles de l’Orne? First of all, I invite you to stroll down the main street (called Rue des Casinos) and its few shops. If its buildings aren’t all that pretty, you’m sure you’ll still enjoy wandering in a small countryside town. I advise you to make a small detour through the Sacré CÅ“ur Church, and have a look around the neighborhood. You’ll discover lovely houses from the ‘Belle Epoque’! The few steps to get there are worth it! At the end of the main street, you’ll find a park with beautiful fall foliage colours, and the casino of Bagnoles de l’Orne. The park is relatively large, so you can wander inside for a while.
Bagnoles de l’Orne thermal baths and spa
From the park, you can reach the various spa and thermal baths from the path which is situated below Professor Louvel street.
The baths, let’s talk about them! The town is famous for its spa and baths, because its water is full of oligo-elements as it travelled along time inside earth. This water is supposed to have virtues, especially for the treatment of diseases associated with rheumatology, phlebology and gynecology. I didn’t have a chance to enjoy a treatment myself, but the Hotel des Thermes is worth the detour even for its architecture only.
The castle and its park
After the baths, continue on the main road and turn right at the roundabout to take the ‘Avenue du Docteur Joly’. A little further on the right you’ll arrive at the park and the castel of Bagnoles de l’Orne. As you can imagine the park is splendid in autumn with its colourful foliage. The castle, which is also the town hall of Bagnoles de l’Orne was built between 1855 and 1859. The little extra? It’s located in the heights of town, which means you can enjoy at the same time a nice panorama over the surroundings!
