Road Trip in Scotland – Day 5, hikes in Isle of Skye

The isle of Skye is an absolute must see, if you make a road trip in Scotland, and that’s why I spent an entire day there. It was dedicated to hike!

What morning walks look like in Isle of Skye: Quiraing and Kilt Rock

In the morning I went to Quiraing, in the north-east of Skye, to admire the view of the hills all around. The hike is quite easy because it’s almost flat the all way (except at the end), you may have to cross a few tiny streams of water like I did, but nothing very hard, trust me.

Then drove to Kilt Rock, to enjoy the waterfall crashing into the sea. It offers a superb view of the cliffs. For lunch, I stopped at Cafe Columba 1400. This is a café whose goal is dedicated to help young people’s reinsertion into the society. The proportions are huge and perfect after a good walk, and both dishes and prices are correct.

Afternoon in Old Man of Storr, Portree and Eilan Donan Castle

After getting some strength back, I was able to face the 3 hours of walk at Old Man of Storr, and it’s necessary to hold on because there, it’s going up my dear friends! But the sharp rocks at the top and the panorama once up are worth it!

After this hike, I continued the road trip, with a stop at Portree, the main city of Isle of Skye. There I recharged the batteries with a small coffee, while enjoying the marina area. Then I left Skye to join my next destination, and my B&B (which was super lovely, with large and bright common rooms, and a breakfast to die for). As it was mild outside, and the sunset seemed promising, I decided to wander around Eilan Dolan Castle, as a proper James Bond girl. Indeed, if this castle seems familiar, it’s because it’s in a James Bond movie: The World is not Enough).

And you, have you ever visited the Isle of Skye? If so, where was your favourite moment?

The next destination is getting more and more quirky! Ready?
