Hi there! You must have heard about Etretat, and now I’ll tell you why you need to discover this stunning place with your own eyes!
Why is Etretat a must-see place in Normandy?
Such as Fécamp, Etretat is a Norman seaside resort, where pebble beach and white cliffs form a wonderful site. Erosion has crafted the famous arch in the chalk as well as the needle. If these two sounds familiar today, it’s because they inspired many artists, particularly impressionist painters as Claude Monet or Eugene Boudin.
What to do on a day trip to Etretat ?
Staying an entire day in Etretat is perfect to enjoy the town, the beach and the extraordinary landscapes. Indeed, the place will reveal its different faces as you go through the day. Whether in summer or winter the amazement is guaranteed (even on a rainy day, which makes it even more cliché)!
Visit the town center
If you come to Etretat by car, the easiest way is to leave it in the car park at the entrance of the town. To reach the beach you will have to cross the city town. Take the opportunity to go for a walk, discover its flea market which is full of local and gift shops. A walk around the Notre-Dame church is also very nice.
Etretat, its cliffs and pebble beach
On both sides of the beach, cliffs and hikes are impressive. You’ll see Notre-Dame de la Garde Chapel, on the heights east of the resort. It was built by sailors in honor of Virgin Mary. On the west side, you must take the path that leads to the top. This is THE ride you need to walk on because of its breathtaking views of the cliffs! And note that, if the tide allows it, you can also wander at the bottom of the cliffs where the view is definitely worth it too!
And because you are going to have a big crush on Etretat and want to protect this site, please, leave the pebbles on the beach!
So are you ready ? Etretat, this little Norman jewel is waiting for you !!!
Boujou (the Norman way to say XOXO)
