Hi there ! You probably know the Mont Saint Michel, one of our Norman monuments, part of UNESCO World Heritage? Today I’ve decided not to take you there, but please don’t be disappointed. Indeed, another article will be devoted to this beauty soon. Instead we’ll rather admire a superb view of the Mont and its bay, from Avranches!
Must see places in Avranches
It’s quite simple to go to Avranches, as you can use the large parking in front of the town hall. As it’s in the city center, you can start wandering from there. As you’ll see, Avranches is full of charm with its narrow streets and granite houses. I advise you to go in the heights of the city, to enjoy the craft shops, admire the Church ‘Notre Dame des Champs’ architecture, in order to reach the botanical garden. This was definitely my favorite place in the town! Indeed, you’ll enjoy an absolutely majestic view of the Mont Saint Michel and its bay. Without being bothered by lots of tourists, isn’t it great?!
I unfortunately couldn’t visit the Scriptorial which contains manuscripts of Mont Saint Michel, or the basilica because my boat to Jersey left earlier than expected. It’ll do it next time for sure as it’s giving an excuse to come back!
Where to eat
Because exploring a town built on heights makes you hungry, I recommend you to try the Bistrot de Pierre restaurant. I’ve myself tested it and the value for money was very good!
I’m curious to know if there are other secret views of Mont Saint Michel … if you do know some, please share it by commenting below as it will benefit the community!
Boujou (the Norman way to say XOXO)
