Hello! You probably know Etretat for its famous cliffs, right? But did you know Fécamp’s cliffs are as beautiful? I’m taking you to this other city in Normandy, for a day trip, and share with you the best places to visit!
The Palais Bénédictine, a must-see place in Fécamp
I really recommend visiting this place because it was a great experience for me. Indeed, the architecture is of course splendid, but the story that we discover inside is even more incredible! I won’t tell you everything in detail because I prefer to let you discover its secrets on your own. All you need to know is that you’ ll discover how the famous Bénédictine liquor is made. Its different ingredients, its manufacturing process and how to use it in various cocktails, you’ll know everything. I personally loved being able to touch the plants and spices, smell the aromas, and taste the liquor at the end of the visit. Moreover, you’ll learn more about its creator, a Benedictine monk who lived in Fécamp’s Abbey in the 16th century.
The stunning cliffs
To admire the cliffs you can go to 2 places:
- Fécamp’s beach which is 5 minutes walk from the town center. It’s a typical one in Upper Normandy because it’s made of pebbles. If you want to do some exercise (and eliminate the violet ice cream, for example) please have a walk on the beach. Yes walking on pebbles is considered as a sport! Also, I know pebbles seem like a nice souvenir to take home, but please leave them where they are as they are part of the landscape! Plus you could get a fine for this!
- The Cap Fagnet, which is in the heights of Fécamp will offer you superb views. On one side, you can admire Fécamp’s cliffs and its marina, and if you’re lucky and the weather is nice, you’ll be able to see a stunning Alabaster coast panorama. On the other side, you will discover an even more exceptional view and Blockhouses of the Atlantic Wall.
Wandering in the town center
I also advise you to wander in the town center and around the harbour. I’m sure you’ll like the relaxed atmosphere, and some monuments such as St Etienne’s Church.
So are you ready to spend a day in Fécamp?
