Hi there, for the next step of this road trip in Scotland, I’m taking you further North, the real one! The North, where you cross mountains as if you were in the french Alps, and where you sleep in barrels! Are you coming?
From Eilean Dolan Castle to Badachro
I had to drove a lot that day, about 3 hours, and started by driving to Applecross. I should warn you, the roads are difficult to drive on (except if you’re a pilot or born in the mountains). However, the fifty shades of ocher landscapes are as stunning and the view at the top over Applecross’ turquoise beach is worth it.
Then I drove to Torridon, with a stop at Shieldaig for lunch: at the café Nanny’s, a restaurant I strongly recommend. This is where I tasted my first Caramel and Tea Cake! In Torridon, I wandered for 1:30 and discovered a park reserved for deer, and an old ruin with a nice panorama of the surroundings.
My most original experience in Scotland
I went back on the road again, to reach my next destination, a very original one! Indeed, I spent the night in Badachro, on a small island, in a small barrel! And I loved it! The bed was comfortable, it smelled like wood (no smell of whiskey I swear) and was very cosy. There is even a kitchen available, and of course shower and toilets outside the barrel. I enjoyed a tasteful dinner at the Badachro Inn and where the food is so fresh! So delicious my seafood risotto is still present in my mind!
This is the first time I went so far north on our planet, and it makes me feel a little something! And you, what was your northernmost adventure?
Boujou (the Norman way to say XOXO)
